In October 2008, Jeanette Sumler-Hutchinson, a member of the First Ascent team, took part in the widely reported Original Mountain Marathon held in the Lake District. A veteran of several mountain marathons, when asked by a colleague at what stage she retired, Jeanette replied in her very typical understated way:

“Dug deep to finish with a good score, only to find it had been called off and then had to walk for 2 hours over Honister Pass in a howling gale and torrential rain. Slept in the car on Saturday night and got out of there first thing Sunday before the masses got back to HQ and got cars stuck in the mud. Legendary weekend, great example of media hype.”

A great example of mental toughness – well done Jeanette!
