A leadership and talent development programme for 40 leaders ranging from the CEO through to Heads of Service Delivery and their direct reports.

Organisation Overview

Myton Hospices work with up to 1,000 patients and their families each year across Coventry and Warwickshire, in hospices, via patient and family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home.

Our Approach

Following a large group session on handling conflict, First Ascent pull together a leadership programme that would support the performance development of this multi hospice group.

A five-module programme started by exploring management vs leadership, specifically looking at the role of reflection. Performance management was flagged to be a real opportunity and this formed the basis of Module 2. Module 3 looked at emotional intelligence, leadership styles and coaching, and Module 4, a very practical session, centred on the creation of high performing teams and talent management. The final module focused on developing resilience.

The programme prompted the creation of a talent pool, which First Ascent then ran a further workshop for, based around communication and influencing. Further development work also continued with specific teams across the group.

All participants have access to free mentoring and the First Ascent Foundation.

Impact and ROI

Post programme feedback highlighted a greater confidence across the management team with a real step change in performance management in particular. Several completely new initiatives were driven directly out of the programme
