Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Leadership Programme

An extensive bespoke programme of leadership development for over 100 leaders and managers, which has evolved over time.

Organisation overview

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has 60 councillors in 29 wards across the borough, who are democratically accountable to the residents of their ward. The council aims to ensure residents and future generations continue to enjoy an excellent quality of life and environment, which well planned growth can secure.

What was our approach?

A range of 12 modules were designed, developed and delivered, which people attended based upon their personal development needs.

The modules were created specific to the outcomes of a needs analysis and they continue to evolve as the Council needs change. Emergenetics profiling was used within the programme to help leaders understand their natural communication preferences and help them improve their adaptability to difference situations.

Several leaders and managers from BDBC attend each First Ascent Foundation to continue their development.

Impact and ROI

The programme has supported leaders to deal more effectively with challenges, opportunities and change. Emergenetics has also provided a constructive and non-critical language to allow more effective communication across the Council.

In 2015 BDBC were crowned ‘Employer of the Year’ in the annual Hampshire Inspire business awards.
